Hi, my name is Fabia. I am a Lecturer in Biochemistry and Qualified Nutritional Therapist.

I am interested in the links between diet, lifestyle and health.

My path to the present

I became interested in nutrition and a holistic approach to health at a young age. This interest was intensified when a close family member had a life-changing diagnosis. I wanted to understand how what we eat, and how we live, can be used to capture and maintain health.

I studied biochemistry as I was interested in the molecular basis for life and wellbeing; how our cells work to create living, breathing beings, and how cells and tissues interact with their environment to either support health or lead to disease. I went on to study for my PhD, researching protein structure and how structure relates to functions necessary for life.

In order to relate my detailed knowledge of the inside workings of cells back to how we function as a whole living being, and how our diet in particular plays a role in health and disease, I studied for a diploma in Naturopathic Nutrition.

The present

My training as a scientist has given me an eye for detail, taught me to be analytical and methodical and allows me to keep in tune with the latest research.

In Academia

I am a lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Liverpool, and enjoy bringing the latest in research to my students. I run Masters courses, design curricula and work on staff wellbeing initiatives.

I innovate in teaching delivery, for example I have written an award-winning blog (life-sciences-labs-explained.blogspot.com) and created instructional videos.

I am also passionate about giving students opportunities to showcase their work and success, and to this end I founded and manage the award-winning student journal Insider Imprint.

In Nutrition

I take great joy from helping others understand the links between nutrition and their health.

I write the blog nourish daily, providing bite-size info on topics supportive of health and whole-food plant-based recipes & tips.

I am creating free edu-resources on nutrition, spreading knowledge and understanding on nutrition in general and the whole foods plant based diet.

I offer various services, including:

  • New curricula development based on the latest pedagogy
